==COVID-19==
As we all know, The COVID-19 Pandemic led to one of the worst years in history in 2020, and this effect prolonged into 2021. As a result, the Robo Lions ''' declined to compete in official FRC competition ''' since it was going to be a virtual format that was more like a presentation than a faithful competitive experience. Instead, the team focused on re-building, training a new fleet of rookies, and moving all their equipment to a new Build Space!!!

This page includes the history of the Peachtree Ridge robotics club (obviously).

{{note|Some years may seem inaccurate, but this is because the team orients its history around when the [[FRC]] season actually is. Hence, in the school year of 2009-2010, it is our [[2010]] FRC season, thus the team calls it [[2010]]. Events in a year are also fixed to this system, such as a fall event which occurs in the 2010 season, while in actuality, the calendar year that the event happened in is 2009. ==Foundation==
In [[2004]], [[Brandon Adams]] founded the robotics team along with [[Diane Cass]]. Mrs. Cass had traveled from Oklahoma where she had been on a previous [[FIRST]] team. In conjunction with Brandon, his parents, and Mrs. Cass began to lay the foundation for a [[FIRST]] team. Somewhere along the line [[Paul Burrell]] came to help improve the robot. [[Gwen Albers]] came after Paul to point out that the robot needed spirit.<ref>"The Beginning of Robotics" by [[Paul Burrell]].</ref>

==Team Name==
In [[2004]], Team 1261 was registered as "B3 - Break, Build, Believe". The name "Robo Lions" was the first name suggested by [[Gwen Albers]] and a few other members. Although they thought the name was "cute", the guys on the team quickly voted the name down.<ref>[[Matthew Newcomb]] said this.</ref>

The name Robo Lions was later suggested by [[Kanav Jain]] to be the permanent team name.

Pioneered by [[Yog Vaghani]] in 2019, '''The Project Manager''' was created as the second-in-command to the President. The basic idea was to alleviate many of the scheduling responsibilities of the President by creating a role that would be hyper-focused on keeping everyone to a strict timeline.

==Job Requirements==
The job of the Project Manager is to use project management software to write out specific due dates for EVERYTHING that needs to be done across all subteams, and then hold certain leads accountable to getting things done on time. In previous years, we have used BaseCamp, Slack, and Trello to accomplish this.

Strategy in this context can mean how you build and drive your robot, as well as how you scout and how you pick your alliance partners. This role is basically geared towards competition day and the many things that occur at competition.

The Strategy Lead is responsible for laying out the game on Kickoff Day and leading the discussion in how to design our Robot. They are also integral in micro-managing the match strategy that will be executed on competition day, and being the communication between the Scouts' data and the Drivers' actions.

Thanks to the ABSOLUTE GODSEND known as [[Tejas Shah]], 1261 has a fully-functional Scouting Application located [https://scouting-app-1261.herokuapp.com here]. The use of this application coincides strongly with how Strategy is created and shifts throughout a competition, so therefore it is a very large requirement that the Strategy Lead know how to work/fix the Scouting App, or is able to lean on someone who does heavily. In 2020 and 2021, Tejas himself was the Strategy Lead, so there was never a doubt in anyone's mind that this role wouldn't be filled to the utmost perfection. NEVER in his illustrious career has an error occurred on the Scouting Application, and NEVER has a mentor accidentally deleted it. ==Pre-Season (Fall 2019)==
The team spent the majority of the fall semester training the New Rookies for the upcoming 2019 season. We also attempted to create and design a new T-Shirt Robot, but sadly we were never able to fully realize this goal.

===GRITS===
The team attended GRITS at Kell High School on November 2, 2019. They played alongside other teams in Georgia and had a phenomenal time. We were able to utilize our newly optimized scouting system and rank 6th place, earning us a spot on an alliance with our Teams 6829 and 4188. While we did not win this one, our rookie drivers got some much needed experience for the upcoming 2020 season.

===Suwanee Day Parade===
The team once again participated in the Suwanee Day Parade with a theme focused on STEM in general. With a custom designed banner, the team took to the parade by holding up STEM related signs and passing out candy to the children on the sides. In addition, they used a giant bubble wand to blow massive balloons as the parade float moved along. To top it off, they shot T-shirts out of [[Jeff]] and used [[Genesis]] to propel beach balls into the crowd. The team's float was awarded an Honorable Mention by the judges.

===Duluth Fall Festival===
The team also attended the Duluth Fall Festival for the 4th year in a row. Rocking a similar set up as the Suwanee Day Parade, the team was able to shoot even more T-Shirts into the crowd at the Fall Festival. For many rookies, it was their first outing with a team.

===Trunk Or Treat===
The team did participate in [[Peachtree Ridge High School|Peachtree Ridge]]'s third annual Trunk or Treat, where students from different schools go from trunk to trunk to trick or treat in a safe environment. This year, the team sported a Jurassic Park themed trunk, complete with a giant inflatable dinosaur.

The training efforts were largely successful, however, given the many new rookies coming in from the class of 2022.

In terms of rankings, the team ended up in 22nd place and sadly was not chosen for alliance selection. ==Competition Season==
This one was an interesting one. With essentially the same team as [[2018]], the team got to work prototyping and designing for the 2019 season on January 6th. After much work during those 6 weeks, we were able to come up with [[Pumbaa]], a low-level hatch and cargo machine designed to stay low and play to other bot's weaknesses. This strategy turned out well for the team, as we cleaned up with the Autonomous Award and Quarterfinals at Albany. After some revisions prior to the Forsyth event, including a Tongue and a level 2 climb, we hit the ground running there, partnering with Team 1683 the TechnoTitans, ranking 5th place, and taking home the Safety Award. Our outstanding Forsyth performance put us on the map at States, where we made it all the way to the Semi-Finals. While we thought this was the end for us, our team got a Wild Card Invitation to the 2019 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Houston for the 2nd time in a row! We had a blast in Houston, and while we didn't get picked, we certainly learned gained a lot of experience for the 2020 season!

==Pre-Season (Fall 2017)==
The team spent the majority of the fall semester preparing for [[GRITS]], as last year saw some issues regarding robot performance.
===GRITS Preparation===
The team met every Tuesday at the start of the semester from 5-8 PM to prototype potential new designs or modifications to last year's design. As the event approached, the team began meeting on Monday and Thursday at the same time in addition to the Tuesday meetings.

The team decided to focus more on gears rather than last year's not as successful strategy of going for fuel. As such, the fuel intake and shooter were removed in favor of a wooden intake that was able to slide left to right as well as move outward. The winch from last year was kept, although moved in position.

===GRITS===
The team attended GRITS at Riverside Military Academy on October 28-29, 2017. They played alongside other teams in Georgia and had a phenomenal time. In terms of rankings, the team ended up in 22nd place and sadly was not chosen for alliance selection. That being said, the team did learn a lot during the event, as a mostly inexperienced drive team gained valuable experience and rookies on the team learned about Pit Scouting.

==Fall Outreach Events==
===Suwanee Day Parade===
The team once again participated in the Suwanee Day Parade with a theme focused on STEM in general. With a custom designed banner, the team took to the parade by holding up STEM related signs and passing out candy to the children on the sides. In addition, they used a giant bubble wand to blow massive balloons as the parade float moved along. To top it off, they shot T-shirts out of [[Jeff]] and used [[Genesis]] to propel beach balls into the crowd. The team's float was awarded an Honorable Mention by the judges.

===Duluth Fall Festival===
The team also attended the Duluth Fall Festival for the 3rd year in a row. Rocking a similar set up as the Suwanee Day Parade, the team was able to shoot even more T-Shirts into the crowd at the Fall Festival. For many rookies, it was their first outing with a team.

===Trunk Or Treat===
The team did participate in [[Peachtree Ridge High School|Peachtree Ridge]]'s third annual Trunk or Treat, where students from different schools go from trunk to trunk to trick or treat in a safe environment. This year, the team created a Pac-Man arcade game styled trunk. Students were able to participate in an event where they tossed a green ball into the Pac-Man head created by [[Claris Lee]].

==Competition Season==
Anxious for a chance at redemption from the shortcomings of last year, Team 1261 started the year off with the rebuilding of another robot during the fall for the GRITS 2017 Competition. This provided the newcomers with an excellent “hands-on” learning experience that prepared them well for the 2018 season. Once again, the team went over to Walton High School to celebrate kickoff and learn more about the 2018 FRC game, FIRST PowerUp, an arcade-themed game based on dropping crate-sized cubes onto seesaws of various heights in a fight for ownership and points! 1261 got right to work, prototyping and designing a variety of different ideas and discussing the optimal strategy for the game for their first competition in Albany, GA. After a hard 6 weeks of work, [[Yog]] was Born!!!

In Albany, the team made it to the quarterfinals as Alliance Captain, but was not able to make it any further. Then, the team went out-of-state for a weekend competition in Asheville, North Carolina, where we got a chance to interact with NC District teams and form valuable connections. During Week 6, the team went to the Duluth competition right in our own backyard at Infinite Energy Center. At both the Asheville and Duluth competitions, we were ranked at 5th place, and at the Duluth event, we won the Industrial Design Award! This qualified us for the State Championship in Athens, GA, where we fought against the best in Georgia and did not qualify for the next level of competition. Our journey would have ended here had we not been selected off the waitlist to go to the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas! The team had a great time meeting teams from all around the world, go-karting, and cheering on our Co-Captain Natalie Luong as she won the Dean’s List Award in Houston, and we look forward to being back next year!
